Pros:- a good lesson guide for teachers- provides info on kind of music to play with each exercise (e.g. 16 measures in 4/4)- instructs what to do on each beat- takes you on a journey from 1st grade up to eighth- great for students (please read student list below)Cons:- does not describe in detail the quality of the movements (i.e. it's a lesson guide only)- some of the pictures show poor form and technique (e.g. in demi plie in first position the children's turnouts were incorrect - i.e. they were turning out the feet but not the whole leg from the hip down) - SO DON'T USE THE PICTURES OF THE CHILDREN AS A GUIDE!!This book is good for students who:- already have a wide vocabulary of ballet terminolgy- want to train more but can't afford extra classes- are on holiday and don't want to fall behind- want to be able to choose their own level of training (e.g. go back to the basics if they are recuperating from an injury, have had time off dance, or just want to take a break from mentally taxing exercises)- remember better from reading as opposed to watchingI suggest that you use Basic Principles of Classical Ballet (Agrippa Vaganova) to aide your learning. This book (100 Lessons in Classical Ballet...) is great for providing a lesson plan, but it does not aide your learning. Also, by reading Agrippa Vaganova's book along side these exercises you will learn the correct form, technique, and quality of movement in performing these exercises.P.S. Keep in mind that these exercises were made to be executed using the Vaganova method. However, it is very simple to apply any other method to these exercises.

This is a beautiful book. I'm not a dancer, but I do use ballet as my workout. I can see how Vaganova technique is a bit different from anything I ever watched before, and can see why Russian dancers are some of the most exquisite in the world, especially those from the Kirov/Mariinsky Theater. I used some of the techniques and incorporated some of the movements into my own routine, and it has made a LOT of difference in my chest, breath, and arm carriage. I do like this book A LOT.

I found this book really interesting. I think this will really help me as I continue to develop what is appropriate at each level for my students. I think that the Vaganova school takes students at the age of 9, so they are much older than my kiddos. However I think I can still use this information to help me plan my lessons and know what they should be capable of before moving on to the next step. This is very pedagogy driven, so if you are looking for a good book on progression I would say this is a great resource.

This book is fantastic and absolutely worth the investment! I highly recommend this for new and old dance instructors alike.I am a dance instructor with over a decade of teaching experience.

I bought this book together with Vaganova's handbook and a couple other resources. I admit that i learned more just from reading this book than i learned from some of my own dance instructors over many years. While i think it's necessary also to read other technical books for details on HOW to do these exercises, i do think this lesson plan leaves virtually no holes in students' strength, knowledge, or artistry. The thing that i found a tiny bit frustrating is that the exercises are REALLY hard, if you're not trained properly. For example, i tried to give exercises from the 4th Year Lesson 1 Plan in this book to students that were considered "Advanced" at a studio where i had just started teaching, and they literally could not do the exercises! And unfortunately, the 1st and 2nd year exercises are tedious for students used to being given steps that are too advanced and being allowed to botch them. So i would not recommend these lessons for "casual" ballet students (a term i detest!). I would recommend drawing from these lessons for students who are at the beginning of their ballet training, and starting with Year 1. I also found it helpful to watch videos of Vaganova students on YouTube. Sometimes one can find real Vaganova students doing the exact same exercises--and doing them correctly. It's very inspiring!

Good way to practice at home when you just can't wait for class :) I'm surprised they start the first years off at 5th position right away, but hey, Soviet Russia...

This is a great book if you want to teach Vaganova technique, of course it is helpful if one is already trained in the technique. The lessons are progressive, detailed, age and level appropriate. You may find children and young dancers are doing many advance moves with poor execution, especially those students at dance STUDIOS rather than dance SCHOOLS. So, with that being said, when doing a lesson from this book, it may appear to you and the child that it is to easy, however, when practicing with proper execution the child will realize as well as you, the teacher, that the lessons will help fill the holes in the technique of most studio dancers, especially the competition studios that focus on too much dance and very little technique. A child can do 5 pirrouetttes in jazz/lyrical/comtemporary style dance and falls down in one properly executed pirrouette in ballet....typical.

Recipient is a ballet teacher and she loved it!

I just passed the exam with a score of 831 on my first try at 62 years of age. This book was my primary study guide, but I vacillated between giving 3 or 4 stars. Here's how I arrived at four:The book itself would have been a solid five except for numerous editing errors, which I find somewhat inexcusable especially when you take the quiz at the end of a chapter only to find that the book had some wrong answers. I'm glad I had a later edition so I didn't have to put up with scrambled chapters. I've written books myself so I am at a loss as to how so many errors could have slipped by. I'll blame it on the editors (or lack thereof) - just make sure you print out the errata page from the O'Reilly site as a reference. So for bad editing, I subtract .5 stars.And then there's the practice exam...This has got to be the worst practice exam out there for this test. The questions bear little resemblance to the real thing in either format or difficulty. If you barely pass this exam YOU WILL NOT PASS THE REAL THING. I was getting about 95% on the MeasureUp exam and then bought the Transcender exam after reading some of the reviews here. My 95% was worth 60% (FAIL) on the Transcender exam, which is much closer to the real exam in difficulty. I am not trying to sell you on Transcender as I feel it was over-priced considering that it too has accuracy issues.Bottom line, I was ready to deduct two stars for the worthless exam (which another reviewer did) but decided to view it as a flawed bonus, like those coupons that print on your grocery receipt for items you just bought. So another .5 deduction - four stars seems about right. I would prefer that they didn't include the test as it could raise one's confidence unjustifiably.Buy this training kit for the well-written, well organized, occasionally-flawed text and use it as a guide as you also include other sources from other books or the web, especially the MSDN site. Regard the worthless test as practice but beware of wrong answers. And, of course, good luck on your exam.

If you plan on passing the 70-461 exam, this book is pretty much a necessity. I took the exam yesterday, passed, and relied on this book heavily. Having said that, I'm only giving it 4 stars for two reasons. 1. I don't think this book is enough. It's really hard to understand some of the more advanced concepts of SQL that you'll need for the exam without actually "seeing" them in action. While this book does touch on most things, I think you really need to get some other resources to aid in your studies. I'd suggest going to youtube and looking up DBAChad's, Steve Stedman's, and/or Aaron Buma's video series on SQL. They're excellent. Also, while their books are good, the Joes2Pros video series, though a paid service, really is some of the best out there in terms of covering a wide variety of topics that will be on the exam. 2. As many people have mentioned, the practice exam that accompanies the book would be better served as a CD paperweight. It's an absolute joke compared to what you'll see on the actual test. I would say if you're not passing that with flying colors to not even attempt the exam but it's so far removed from what is actually on the exam that even if you are passing it with flying colors, that's really not an indication of how you'll do on the test. I would HIGHLY suggest maybe going out and purchasing a practice test license from either MeasureUp or Transcender. I took some of the MeasureUp free exams and actually bought the Transcender license. The MeasureUp exam looks/feels more like the actual test but I preferred the Transcender exam myself simply because I think they do a better job of explaining the concepts in their review section. The level of difficulty on these tests is much more akin to what you'll see on the actual test. I can honestly say that I wouldn't have passed the test without these practice exams. If you can afford it, I'd get both. If you're looking to add more to our arsenal, I'd stay away from the Udemy and PluralSight online courses. Having taken both, I can say that they are very high level and not as in depth as you'll need. The youtube/Joes2Pros series are much better. I can't really comment on either the Transcender of MeasureUp video series. My method of study was this book, as well as the Joes2Pros series coupled with pretty much everything I could find/mentioned on youtube. Pragmitech technologies/kudvenkat's youtube channel also has some great stuff. Enjoy and happy studying.

In summary not well organized or structured and generally feels like reading through someone's notes before they really organized their thoughts well. Most often this book is very wordy and overly complicated on simple SQL. For example the sentences throughout the book are quite longer than the average English language sentence. When explaining it would preferable the author would use short, clear, concise sentences. He also continues to write on and on about something he will cover in future chapters while explaining something in the current chapter. For example this makes it very hard to understand what he is talking about in chapter 2 when he bases much of chapter 2 on what he will tell you about later in the book.The author knows the subject but can't relate to folks who are not already completely familiar with SQL. This is not a good choice if you are just okay with the basics of T SQL. You have to be quite good at T SQL already in order to understand this book which is odd because you wouldn't need this book to pass the Microsoft Exam then.I'm giving it 2 stars because I have been able to use this book as a topic guide. For example I can google the topics covered in each chapter, figure things out by much more clearly written and organized descriptions online, and then if I can actually follow what the author is trying to say in this book then I must know the topic pretty well.

Because this book had so many high reviews I downloaded it despite the high price tag ($5.38 for 200 pages). Unfortunately I don't feel as though I got my money's worth.Cons: everything is repetitive. I imagine the first ten pages of the book were the most interesting for me. After that it's just following Jin's self pity and contradicting actions and hearing Logan's verbal claims on his mate. All the characters are shallow and their actions don't match their thoughts. The universe itself has already been done by other authors so I can't even give much credit to that. The sex scenes, although hot at first, were overdone. By the end of the book every other scene was sex with only little change. I felt as though there was very little character development that we could see and what changes happened were because the author states that they had. I'd pay $5 for a regular novel with no problem but this was something I'd be disappointed to read even finding it for free somewhere as an amateur work.Pros: Calmes writing isn't bad on the word by word level and it was properly edited. The cover art is nice which was probably the reason I even looked at the page in the first place. All over this book was physically done with a lot of care. The characters seemed like they had a lot of potential and their personalities were interesting, I just wished I'd seen more done with that.I read this whole book to give it a fair review but I'm sorry to say I don't plan on buying the rest of the series. The next book seems like it's much of the same and 200 pages is enough of Jin's self pity and Logan forcing his mate to do what he wants him to for me.

DNF 20%My issue with this book is something you either REALLY mind or you don't. If I had to name it using just one word I think "destiny" might help out but it's not just it.. Reading PNR books you are usually presented with a lot of situations in which people are "destined" to be together and so their attraction is either OTT or there's this "click" between them they can't shut off and here they are - a couple. While I CAN accept that in PNR books to some extent I don't like it. Heck, the MC in this book doesn't like the idea of being stuck with someone because that's how the "laws of attraction" works so why should I?Jin Rayne is a werepanther but he's not just ANY werepanther, he is destined to mate with a pack leader (there's a special name for that "destined job"). That's is quite bizarre considering he is male and pack leaders is male "job". What kind of pack leader would want a man for a mate? Jin does his best to avoid any pack leader not only to NOT stumble upon his destined mate but also because he has a certain appeal because of his special "destiny" that makes him likeable to right around anyone who meets him (human or shifter). Though it's nice having most of everyone on your side it felt a bit "staged" and very "fake". While Jin was trying his best to stay in the side lines, wherever he goes people just want him to stay and almost worship his strange appeal. When meeting other shifters with other "destinies" (other "jobs") it become a little unbearable for me. I understand that shifters are not a real thing.. but I would like the story at least to feel realistic somehow. Alas, it wasn't.The obsession with Jin's "destiny" was beyond annoying. He is this rear thing everyone wants to snatch. But since HE is the only one who knows the "old rules" he keeps explaining it to everyone - why they CAN'T have him and why HE has to choose his mate. 20% in and I was not only bored with learning the special pack "jobs" (mostly destined ones) I was annoyed that people's acts were NOT their own. They behaved through those roles with instinct and at times without knowing why they are doing what they are doing...An example needs to be made.. He doesn't know who he is but he wants him to meet his pack leader (to determine if he is his destined mate) and even though he is suspicious about him (saying he is mated, yet he isn't) he is still protective of him. SAY WHAT? Jin, naturally, knows why because he knows what his destiny "job" makes him out to be, and he instantly realizes the "job" this shifter has which helps him determine the guy's behaviour.Are you confused yet? I am.. I was reading this book and thinking to myself - WTF man? Even animals have more brain to DECIDE how they want to act. Yeah they can be ruled by instinct at times, but they are free beings. It's not like that in this book AT ALL. Everyone's behaviour felt so damn OTT (and mostly unreal).As I said at the beginning of my review, if you don't mind the whole "destiny" concept you might really like this one. It's quite unique and I think it's going to deal with interesting issues later on. I also like that the politics are backed by actual written laws.- The narratorâ€™s attitude is amusing sometimes, particularly when he makes snide comments about other characters or his surroundings.- Jin is a typical Calmes protagonist in that he gets himself into all kinds of trouble and then reacts with a foolishly freewheeling attitude. â€œIf I got upset every time someone beat me,â€ he says, â€œor chased me, or tried to rape me, Iâ€™d be crying in my cereal every morning.â€ (I put this as a PRO because I found the *first* character like this amusing, although I admit that Iâ€™m growing tired of it now.)CONS:- There are arguments throughout the story that go on for far too long, with the same points being made multiple times on each side. The writing is needlessly repetitive at other times, too. Hereâ€™s an example from (I think) the second page: â€œThe fact remained that she was out, seemingly alone, at two in the morning in a very bad part of town,â€ and then three short paragraphs later, thereâ€™s this: â€œTwo in the morning in a bad part of town all alone, the girl obviously had a death wish.â€- The dialogue is sometimes a little awkward because the speaker is talking more to the reader than to the other characters present, using conversation to impart background information in a way that doesnâ€™t sound realistic. Also, I take exposition to heart, so when â€œseveral minutes [tick] by before he [speaks],â€ and then less than a page later, â€œwe[â€˜re] silent for several minutes before he [speaks],â€ and so onâ€¦I imagine the conversations taking FOREVER.- I found the ending anticlimactic.Overall comments: This is the third or fourth Calmes book Iâ€™ve read, and thereâ€™s certainly a pattern among them: her main characters lead charmed lives with foes getting their comeuppance in satisfying ways and past loves being told flippantly by the protagonist that theyâ€™re too late. I didnâ€™t dislike this; Iâ€™m just growing tired of the formula. (WARNING for those who are squicked by animalish sex scenes: there are a few scenes here when the guys arenâ€™t entirely human.)
