In this newer version cloud, big data, mobile BI are the newer topics while agile continues to be a hot topic. Cindi has updated the survey results in this book as well. Other topics covered include open-source BI and databases, something I had not considered. She has updated the agile portion of the book to include scrum methods and sprints and how they work.What is especially interesting is all the customer case stories, crossing industries and BI vendors. They include Netflix, Medtronic, FlightStats, the Dow Chemical Company, Macy's and more. Each company is trying to solve a different problem with Business Intelligence. Medtronic is an SAP customer, while Macy's is using a combination of SAP BusinessObjects and Tableau.She goes into depth discussing the business-IT partnership of BI, and the personality types associated with each. It was interesting to me to see the Meyers-Briggs personality test covered, as introverts are generally with IT while those in the business are extraverts.What is in it for you as a customer or partner reading this book? To me it would be to benchmark your company/customer to the survey results/companies in the book. It is good to take a step back and look at the industry outlook and see what other vendors are doing with BI, Big Data, Cloud and more. How do you measure success in business intelligence? See how other companies do it in this book and see how others responded to her survey.You can also learn about the "LOFT" effect - "Luck, Opportunity,Frustration, Threat" along with the resulting case studies at each Company. See how companies are using social media in their businesses along with the "Big Data".

Really well written for a reader who needs to know and be aware of the breadth and logic of the technical aspects associated BI but does not need deep technical details. Just the right balance.The only reason for 4 for 5 stars is that some information is a bit dated (2014), but most content foundational and is just as relevant as when it was written.

Cindi is a master in helping the reader and implementer understand where to find and recognize value in deploying Business Intelligence. She is not theoretical, but a pragmatist who cites example after example and has hands-on experience. So many authors talk about the subject and quote others, but Cindi's knowledge is experiential and based on exposure to products and use cases. She steps you through the choices and helps you understand how to measure value. She speaks to both the business users and the technocrats with a language and examples that we all can understand. A refreshing read and not a re-hash of older tomes on a similar topic.

This is one of those books written by people who are experts in their field but not necessarily experts at writing. However, the editors appear to have provided a lot of help in making it readable.Actually, the topics discussed throughout the book are fascinating, and overcome a lot of the shortcomings the text has. I assume the stuff is true, or at least as true as the authors could allow it to be. It is interesting in that some details seem familiar from reading other books (both fiction and presumed nonfiction), while other passages claim authenticity while naming previously believed thoughts to be myth. Obviously, regular people will never know exactly what happens inside any intelligence agency, but this book does have a strong "feel" of being authentic.I happen to be a big fan of Daniel Silva, whose excellent books tell of the adventures of Israeli secret agents. Reading this book makes me wonder where he gets his information. The foundations for many of his stories can be found in this book, although with different names and details. It's sort of fun comparing his characters with those described in this here.

I like spy books. This one is a little under whelming. Especially in the first few chapters, the writer is more of a cheerleader than an objective reporter.I wish the book had more "spy craft", which I've learned in other spy books, such as ones by John Le Carre.Nevertheless, no one can argue that, for given Israel's small size and constant danger it faces, the Mossad is probably the best, most effective secret security organization in the world.It was fun to learn how the Mossad tracked down infamous Nazis. Those are satisfying stories.The time range the book covers is impressive, from before Israel formed almost to the present day.I was surprised the book reveal so much about Israel's nuclear program. I thought that was still an unconfirmed program. I credit the author for demystifying that.If you're really into spy books, the gold standard is still Peter Wright's "Spy Catcher". I hope a book of similar technical detail is written about the Mossad someday.SPY CATCHER - The Candid Autobiography of a Senior Intelligence Officer

This was a very good book which told the story of 22 Mossad operations from the 1950s up until present day operations against the Iranian nuclear program. The book is a quick interesting read, although I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first, probably because by the second half of the book the author begins to cover operations which I was more familiar with (ie the war on Black September after Munich, Killing of Imad Muginiyah etc)The author does critique certain aspects of missions of Mossad that went bad. Surprisingly the book doesn't cover the Johnathan Pollard affair. I assume he had a lot of interaction with Mossad as he was spying for Israel, but the book does not cover his case.

Though the writing left much to be desired, it was straight and to the point, tying together many bits and pieces we hear in the news into one cohesive thread of a timeline of events. Great adventures and stories that read like something out of a comic book, with real life feats of daring. Yes, it gets a little corny, but overall a captivating read and a nice primer on Israel's secret service operations from hunting down the remnants of the nazis to stopping terrorists in their backyard. It is definitely a flattering book for Israeli and wish there were more balance in terms of the criticisms of the Mossad, but they had to do what they had to do. Would be great to hear more about what has happened since 2012 especially with the rise of ISIS in their backyard now...

This is a truly amazing book. With input from Mossad agents, heads of the Mossad and Israeli leaders, this book tells the stories behind the stories of one of the best(by reputation) intelligence services in the world. What was most interesting is the authors dedicated equal time to their failures and to their successes.From the birth of the state of Israel, through the six-day war, the Yom Kippur war, the raid on entebbe, the Palestinian Intefads, and the current events unfolding with Syria, North Korea and Iran, this exposes the way the Mossad undertook its missions - from identifying a mission, to selecting agents, to planning and rehearsing the actual undertakings, to their execution. Even though the government of Israel still sensors much of the media and information about their military and intelligence services, stories that have not been told were explained in detail. Names of agents who are still alive and in action were changed to keep them safe.But, the book does not read like a non-fiction text. It reads like a novel. The book is well written, well researched. The stories are told in easy to understand and captivating ways. I strongly recommend this book - whether you are Zionist or Anti-Zionist; if you are passionate about the course of events in the middle east or not, it is very intriguing to understand how intelligence services operate within their country, in tandem with other countries and covertly.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and it was informative. Unfortunately, as with most of the books I have read about Jews/Israel, it is a one-sided, not-too-critical telling of events in a manner is intended to reflect well on Israel. I would have appreciated a bit more analysis of some of the contentious issues between the U.S. and Israel (for example). There was plenty of mention of where the author thought the U.S. and other nations had let Israel (and the world by extension) down, but not so much about (for example) the Jonathan Pollard issue.

Svetlana Chmakova was born and raised in Russia until the age of 16, when her family emigrated to Canada. As a graphic novel librarian, I absolutely had to own this book. Not only is it written and drawn by a very talented author, but it's a great take on teen awkwardness that my patrons really need. This is destined to be on ALL the American Library Association booklists and win all sorts of awards. It's great for teens, tweens, and adults. It somehow managed to tell the story without succumbing to tropes and without talking down to the reader. It really made me feel like the author LIVED this situation and is telling us exactly how it felt, not how her editor told her to make it feel so it would sell better.Peppi is a young girl who doesn't fit anywhere except her art club. Her first day of school she embarrasses herself and ends up hurting the feelings of the nerdiest kid in school. This boy, Jamie, ends up joining the art club's arch-rival the science club. As the club's duke it out in the halls, Peppi and Jamie duke it out on the emotional level, both learning to come out of their shells and save their beloved clubs from cancellation.What else can I say? The art is beautiful. The characters are beautiful. The situation is beautiful. The humor is beautiful. Why are you still reading this when you could read the book?

I bought this book for my 11 year old daughter and she loved it. I asked her to write a review and this is what she wrote. "Awkward is awesome! I'm in sixth grade and I've just started a new school, so I can totally relate to the beginning.I really love the story-line and the character growth between Penelope and Jamie. Also the relationship between the art club and the science club is so funny! So basically what I'm here to say is I love this book and recommend it to anyone who likes graphic novels with a bit of comedy!"

This is a very cute story about kids learning to be friends with people who have different interests. It takes place as a competition between two school clubs and a rivalry spurred on when the principal calls out both clubs for not contributing to the school community. The characters learn to get past embarrassment and bad history, and that their actions have consequences not just for themselves but that also affect those around them. The artwork is beautiful and the cast displays many ethnicities & personalities. I would recommend this book to everyone helping a kid through the awkward teenage years, or who just enjoys a cute story in comic form.

My third grader loves this book. She read it in a few days and immediately asked me to find more books for her like it. A few of her classmates have since borrowed the book, boys and girls, and she said they all really like it too and other kids in class have asked to borrow it next. I haven't read it so I cannot personally review it but she has given it five stars and says it is one of her favorite books. I love anything that draws her into reading and gets her wanting to read more!

I loved this story. It was a short read for me, as I'm an adult. But, I bet for a younger reader it would prove to be a perfect summer read that would take more then one sitting. I liked the main characters and there definitely were some plot twists (or should I say character developments?) that I wasn't expecting. If you're a fan of graphic novels, just looking for something fun to read, or looking for a great book for a younger audience - this is the book for you. IF YOU ENJOYED: Smile by Raina Telgemeier or Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol - then this book is for you.

I’m constantly trying to find books my 6th grade daughter will like. She loved a different series that was also written in this sort of graphic novel style, so I crossed my fingers that she’d like these as well. She did enjoy the books, so that was nice. They weren’t as relatable as the other series was and she said these were more “fake” type of fiction. I love when I’m able to find books she can actually relate to bc middle school aged girls have it not so easy. I wish these had been something that spoke to her more so she might have enjoyed them even more, but she did read them when bored, so they have an entertainment quality to them.

I have been a huge fan of Svetlana's stories since her "Dramacon" series because of her very unique way of treating real-life struggles with intelligence, humor and kindness, so I was really excited about "Awkward".It did not disappoint - this is a beautifully drawn and told story of growing as a person, making friends and learning from ones' mistakes as seen through the eyes of Peppi, a middle school girl, finding her place in a new environment. From awkward situations at school, to hidden problems at home and learning to say "I am sorry", it is really easy to relate to the characters and situations both for kids and adults.Loved it - a great book that is a perfect read /gift for any kid going to school (and any adult who remembers what it was like).

My 12 and 10 year old sons said they really liked this book. They look forward to Brave also by this author. My oldest said he liked the ending of Awkward and how a character feels bad about their actions. My 10 year old said he likes that there is romance in it. These boys ha!
